Nuove appartenenze (New Belongings) is a series of 2 works born from the transformation of earlier paintings. The canvases, originally conceived as standalone works, are cut into strips of about 20 cm and then sewn together, giving rise to new compositions.
In the passage from one work to another, the original image is lost, but its colours, gestures, textures and painterly fragments survive. Each part thus retains a memory of the previous work, while entering into a new relationship with the others.
The series is born precisely from this process of loss and transformation: what once belonged to one work acquires a new identity within another. The stitching makes this recomposition visible and becomes an integral part of the work’s language.
The title Nuove appartenenze therefore evokes the idea of fragments that, separated from their original context, find a new place, a new form and a new belonging.
The works in the series are identified progressively as Nuove appartenenze I, II.
